As I write this post, we are on the eve of our oldest starting the third grade. He is beginning a new school this year, and although he is nervous, I know he will thrive and do great things. At our school, we have a staggered start to help each grade get acclimated to their school and classrooms. It makes the transition much more relaxed and easy-going as they get used to all the changes. Our youngest is pretty excited to have a couple of days off with just me before he starts kindergarten next week. He is definitely more mellow and even-tempered of our two boys and is looking forward to the start of school.

It’s crazy how fast this summer went. We were looking forward to all the fun things we were going to do, including our vacation to Kiawah Island in June and the anticipation of family visiting. It’s going to be so weird to be at home without the little ones all day. For the last 8 years, someone has always been at home with me. While I’m looking forward to finally getting some time just for me, I know I will miss them, not just for the company, but also because I will be curious about how they are doing. I think it’s a mom’s instinct to always worry about your kids and hope they are doing okay. I know the new start to the school year can be stressful and hectic. I am trying my best to enjoy these moments and give myself some grace in these crazy times. Not everything has to be perfect (I worked today and realized I didn’t make a first day of school sign). I have tried to let some of these things go and just enjoy and remember these moments with my boys.

I truly want to take in these times when they get excited for a new school year and they want me to help them pack their lunch and pick out their first day of school outfit. People aren’t kidding when they say how fast they grow. Enjoy these sweet moments and don’t stress the small stuff. Here’s to a wonderful school year for all the kids, both young and old, and to all us parents taking in all the moments.
